Top 5 October DIY Projects

So, what October DIY projects do you need to do around your house? Maybe you haven’t quite worked that out yet. Don’t worry, I have a few suggestions for where to get started.

1. Painting – An Essential October DIY Project

Paint wears out after some time. Take a walk around your house, checking any painted areas for cracks, peeling, or water damage. October is the perfect time to touch up any damaged paint around your house and make it feel fresh and new.

Why not also use this October DIY project to add a bit of something extra to your internal and external space? Paint your front door a new color, paint bedrooms, add a feature wall, or try some upcycling of furniture with chalk paint!

Re-paint any peeling areas and make your house look brand new again!

2. Driveway Maintenance

Maintaining your driveway is another important October DIY project to get stuck into. Driveways undergo significant wear and tear, especially in the cold months. Getting it back up to working order will probably take you a couple of days.

Clean your driveway, and leave it overnight to completely dry out. Do this when the weather is bright and there’s no rain, otherwise, it will not dry enough to maintain it. Seal any cracks if your driveway is asphalt, and leave to dry. There are a few simple steps to follow when doing this. You might also want to take a look at your garage, deciding whether it needs resurfacing or painting to make it look good as new again.

3. Clean Your Fireplace

Who doesn’t love a cozy Fall or Winter fire in the house? If you’ve got a wood, gas, or coal fireplace, then October is the time to get it clean before the weather turns. Clear out any debris from past fires and get it ready to start burning bright again this season.

Get your fireplace ready for the Fall and Winter in October.

The same goes for your garden fire pit if you have one. Although a brilliant addition to any Summer evening, fire pits are also great in the Fall and even sometimes Winter. It’s somewhere to sit with the family on a chilly evening, toasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories. Make sure your fire pit is clean and maintained as part of your October DIY to get it ready for this.

However, you don’t have to limit yourself there. Fall is a brilliant time to plant landscaping trees. There are plenty of other shrubs and plants you could get into the ground, too.

For example, bright flowers like Asters and Sedums do well at this time of year. Container-grown evergreens and even ground cover plants can also be planted in October too. Just make sure you also know how to maintain your seasonal plantings!
